Job summary

Durham University is seeking a Trainee Grounds Maintenance Assistant (development role) to start a hands-on apprenticeship in estates and grounds management. You will work onsite, learn to operate gardening equipment, and progress through a structured development plan toward a Grade 2 role.

The program includes day release for NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture and a pathway from Grade 1 to Grade 2, with support and training provided by experienced staff.

Qualifications

• Good spoken and written communication skills.
• Basic digital skills including internet and email.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
• Experience of working in a team.
• Ability to manage time to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to undertake NVQ Level 2 study.

Responsibilities

• Provide an excellent service to students and staff in grounds maintenance.
• Learn to use gardening equipment and tools.
• Work five days from seven with day release for NVQ study.
• Progress from Grade 1 to Grade 2 via apprenticeship.
• Ensure safety and health and safety regulations.
