Job summary

British Airways is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support base engineering, moving tools and equipment, and assisting with aircraft maintenance tasks. The role requires hands-on initiative, attention to detail and the ability to work in teams of varying sizes across busy hangar environments.

You’ll operate specialist equipment, assist in safety procedures, and help ensure the fleet—short and long‑haul—remains ready for action. Training is provided for required permits and licenses.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Airside Identity Pass.
• Full UK DVLA Category B driving licence with no more than 3 points.
• Airside Driving Permit holder or ability to obtain with training provided.
• Airside Driving Cat 3 holder or ability to obtain with training provided.
• Demonstrates a responsible attitude to safety and security in a demanding environment.
• Strong operational focus and proactive approach.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment, complying with quality, health, safety and housekeeping standards.
• Drive and operate vehicles appropriate to the area, including lifting equipment and elevated work platforms.
• Transport, position and deliver components, materials and equipment to support maintenance.
• Tidy hangars and perform ad hoc maintenance tasks as required.
• Assist with moving aircraft into hangars and supporting maintenance teams.
• Replenish vehicles, storage facilities and equipment as needed.
• Support the development of a high-performance team and departmental objectives.
• Ensure materials and equipment are available when and where required.
