British Airways is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support base engineering, moving tools and equipment, and assisting with aircraft maintenance tasks. The role requires hands-on initiative, attention to detail and the ability to work in teams of varying sizes across busy hangar environments.
You’ll operate specialist equipment, assist in safety procedures, and help ensure the fleet—short and long‑haul—remains ready for action. Training is provided for required permits and licenses.
As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.
It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.
This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.
So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.
We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.
Are you looking for a hands‑on role where no two days are the same? This position is all about supporting the Base engineering teams to keep British Airways short haul and long‑haul fleets ready for action—on time, every time.
You’ll get stuck into all sorts of tasks: from collecting and delivering tools and spares for engineers, to helping move aircraft into the hangars for maintenance, learning to drive aircraft tugs and other specialist equipment. Day‑to‑day jobs will include tidying and cleaning the hangars, tackling ad hoc tasks as needed, and playing your part in keeping things running smoothly. You’ll be working solo some of the time, but you’ll also need to thrive in small and larger teams. A curiosity about working on your own initiative is a big plus here.
Got a strong attention to detail and great driving skills? That’ll come in handy too! You’ll be safely transporting equipment around the airport and towing aircraft in and out of hangars and around the Engineering Base area, operating specialist equipment such as high access platforms to large vehicles in support of maintenance. Thinking ahead and problem‑solving are essential to make it all happen.
If you’re someone who enjoys a varied job, likes rolling up your sleeves, and is ready to be part of a team working hard to deliver top‑notch results, this could be the role for you. Ready to jump in?
The individual will operate specialist equipment as directed. Focuses on providing general assistance to all maintenance colleagues ensuring that safety, airworthiness and customer standards are delivered in a quality and cost‑effective manner. The role has responsibility for ensuring that materials, tools, documentation and equipment are available when and where required, and that standards are maintained.
