Job description

The University of St Andrews is seeking a talented and creative Graphic Designer to join its award-winning Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping how one of the world's leading universities communicates with audiences locally, nationally and internationally. Working within a small, dynamic Design team, you will create high-quality print and digital communications that support student recruitment, enhance the University's reputation, promote research and academic excellence, and engage staff, students, alumni and external audiences.

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will lead and contribute to a wide range of creative projects, taking work from initial brief through to final delivery. Your portfolio of work will include publications, brochures, campaigns, posters, digital assets, large-format materials and content for online platforms. You will ensure all outputs are visually compelling, accessible, and aligned with the University's brand and visual identity.

Working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, you will develop creative concepts, provide expert design advice, and build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the University. You will also work closely with external suppliers and support print production activities, making use of the University's in-house digital print and large-format facilities where required.

We are looking for an experienced designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across both print and digital media. You will have proven expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, excellent organisational and project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. A collaborative approach, strong communication skills, and a passion for delivering creative, high-quality design solutions are essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a professional, supportive and high-performing team, contributing to strategic communications and marketing activity that supports the University's ambitions and global reputation.

In addition to the salary on offer for this position, there are a wide range of benefits for staff working at the University of St Andrews:

  • Financial contribution to relocation (subject to eligibility)
  • Membership of the S&LAS Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions
  • A hybrid working environment, including partial homeworking where appropriate and a range of family friendly policies, supporting work-life balance
  • Staff discount scheme for local and national goods and services
  • Free staff parking, employee Carshare and Cycle to Work Schemes and subsidised local bus travel
  • Subsidised sports membership, reduced tuition fees on degree programmes for staff, access to training and development opportunities including LinkedIn Learning, access to library facilities, salary sacrifice scheme
  • 34 Days Annual Leave plus 5 Public Holidays.

At St Andrews, equality, diversity, and inclusion are central to who we are and form a core pillar of our University Strategy. We are committed to creating a fair, inclusive and supportive workplace, reflected in our participation in national diversity charters and awards, including Athena Swan, Carer Positive and the Race Equality Charter.

We particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian, minority ethnic and minority religions backgrounds and from LGBTQ+ and disabled people.

This role does not meet the minimum requirements set by the UKVI to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
