Term: TBC - full-time, part-time, consultancy

Location: Hybrid, mix of on-site at HQ’s Buckingham facility and remote working

SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a strategicGrant Writer(willing to consider part‑time, full‑time, or contract arrangements) to uncover, qualify, and secure external funding that accelerates our own growth and boosts results for select clients. You will be tasked with scanning the UK, European, and global funding landscapes, translating technical ideas into compelling narratives, and driving each application from concept to award, ensuring our projects are both fundable and flawlessly presented. Success in this role will be measured by the volume, value, and strategic fit of grants won—and by the long‑term relationships created with funders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Opportunity scouting – Monitor government, foundation, and corporate grant portals; curate a living pipeline of opportunities aligned with company and client priorities.
  • Grant strategy & planning – Evaluate fit, develop timelines, and secure internal buy‑in for each target grant.
  • Proposal development – Research, draft, edit, and polish letters of intent, full proposals, budgets, and supporting documents that meet (and exceed) funder requirements.
  • Stakeholder coordination – Gather technical inputs from subject‑matter experts, finance, and legal teams; manage reviews and approvals against tight deadlines.
  • Relationship management – Cultivate connections with program officers and funding bodies.
  • Compliance & reporting – Maintain accurate records, submission logs, and post‑award reporting calendars; ensure every project meets funder guidelines and deliverables.
  • Performance analytics – Track hit rates, award values, and cost‑to‑win metrics; present insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Capacity building – Educate internal teams and clients on funding trends, best practices, and lessons learned to strengthen future applications.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven success securing competitive grants—ideally £500k+ in aggregate awards over the past 6-12 months.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related field; grant‑writing certification a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of UK, EU, and international funding landscapes (e.g., Innovate UK, Horizon Europe, NIHR, major philanthropic foundations).
  • Demonstrable understanding of basic engineering principles with history of winning projects centred around mechanical, systems, electronics, and software engineering.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills—able to tailor tone, depth, and complexity to diverse audiences.
  • Strong financial literacy: comfortable building budgets, justifying cost models, and interpreting funder financial rules.
  • Excellent project‑management abilities: juggle multiple concurrent deadlines while keeping stakeholders aligned and informed.
  • Proficiency with common grant‑management tools.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

WHST WE OFFER:

  • A critical and influential role within thriving, ambitious, and innovative organisation with a unique company culture.
  • Opportunities to spur a diversity of exciting projects combining deep technical expertise, cross-sector innovation, and a motorsport-level pace.
  • Work alongside a close-nit team of exceptional engineers who excel in their respective fields.
  • Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits including comprehensive healthcare cover (full-time only), and significant opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • Annual company ski holiday and quarterly team events (full-time only)/
