Job summary

Families in Transition is seeking a Grant Accountant to own the full grant lifecycle, from invoicing to revenue tracking and audits. You will maintain the general ledger, perform reconciliations, and support budgets with funders and internal teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in grant accounting, billing and full lifecycle.
• Strong GL maintenance, reconciliations and month-/year-end closes.
• Familiarity with payroll reconciliation, fixed assets, and accounts payable.
• Attention to detail and clear communication with funders and teams.
• Ability to drive audits and support budgeting processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the Grant Lifecycle: drive billing, monthly draws, invoicing, receivables and GL reconciliation.
• Keep the books balanced: maintain GL accounts, post journals, and perform reconciliations.
• Lead month-end and year-end closes focusing on grants, prepaids and accruals.
• Support payroll and Accounts Payable; verify staff time and PTO.
• Lead grant audits and assist with annual budgeting.

Are you a numbers wizard with a passion for compliance and impact? We’re looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Grant Accountant to own the full cycle of our grant billing, keep our financials airtight, and partner with funders and internal teams to drive efficiency.

What You’ll Do

• Own the Grant Lifecycle: Drive the entire grant billing process, from gathering info and preparing monthly draws to submitting invoices, tracking receivables, and reconciling payments to the general ledger.
• Keep the Books Balanced: Maintain general ledger accounts, record general journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and handle fixed asset and depreciation files.
• Drive Month-End & Year-End Closes: Focus on prepaids, accruals, and grant billings to ensure seamless closing processes.
• Support Payroll & AP: Review and import payroll entries, reconcile staff time and PTO, and act as a trusted backup for accounts payable and cash disbursements.
• Lead Audits & Budgets: Spearhead grant-related audits to ensure timely completion and assist leadership with the annual budgeting process.

Requirements

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, or related field
• Solid 5+ years' experience in grant accounting, billing, and the full grant lifecycle
• Strong expertise in general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closes
• Familiarity with payroll reconciliation, fixed assets, and accounts payable processes
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication skills for working smoothly with funders and internal stakeholders
