Job summary

GRAHAM Academy is seeking a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our Civil Engineering team in London. You will support cost reporting, procurement, and commercial administration on live projects, under supervision, with exposure to subcontracts and change management.

The role offers a structured development path, mentorship from senior surveyors, and broad experience in cost planning, risk assessment, and value recognition on major infrastructure works in the capital.

Qualifications

• Studying Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management to degree level at university or technical college
• Demonstrate understanding of construction management practices
• Demonstrate strong communication skills
• Have a valid driving licence and the right to work in the UK

Responsibilities

• Check and process sub-contract payments for work completed
• Ensure that Subcontractors are not charging for work that wasn’t completed
• Produce schedules of materials and requirements for procurement from subcontractors
• Prepare and manage project accounts
• Produce regular cost & value reports
• Create spend profiles and forecast costs for projects
• Identify and manage risks and opportunities
• Take off drawings and perform site measurements
• Liaise with site teams to reconcile site records with works claimed
• Agree changes with the Client’s commercial team
• Deal with all contract clauses for a project

What does a Quantity Surveyor do at GRAHAM?

A Quantity Surveyor makes sure that the financial position of construction projects are accurately reported and controlled effectively. They manage the contractual relationships between the various parties involved in any particular project.

A Quantity Surveyor Shall:

• Check and process sub-contract payments for work completed


• Ensure that Subcontractors are not charging for work that wasn’t completed


• Produce schedules of what materials etc. are needed to complete a project so that these can be ‘bought’ from sub-contractors


• Prepare and manage the accounts for projects


• Produce regular reports on cost & value


• Produce spend profiles and regular forecasts for projects


• Identify and manage risk and opportunities


• Take off drawings


• Site measurement


• Liaise with those onsite to obtain site records and reconciling these against works claimed


• Agree changes with Client’s commercial team


• Deal with all legal contracts and their clauses for a project
