Job summary

Arup seeks a Graduate Wind and Fluid Dynamics Engineer in Manchester to join the Environmental Physics and Wind team. You will perform analyses using CFD, dynamic thermal modelling and wind tunnel methods to inform designs for sustainable cities and buildings.

You will collaborate with engineers across disciplines, support live projects from day one and pursue professional qualification while growing technical and communication skills in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical, Aeronautical, Physics or Digital Engineering.
  • Interest in fluid dynamics and its impact on built environments.
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB for modelling or analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake analysis and design for client projects using CFD, thermal modelling and wind tunnel concepts.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers and engineers across buildings, energy and transport sectors.
  • Engage in data interpretation, reporting and presentation to support design decisions.

The Opportunity

Our Environmental Physics and Wind (EP&W) team comprises specialists in fluid dynamics, climate analysis, wind engineering, electro-magnetic compatibility and thermal comfort. The team combines the principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer to design liveable, resilient cities, sustainable buildings, and to solve a wide range of complex problems across all facets of the built environment. From your first day, you will join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification. You will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Undertake analysis and design on behalf of clients or in collaboration with other teams within Arup. Use analytical and numerical methods such as CFD and dynamic thermal modelling as well as wind tunnel modelling and other forms of testing to inform the design process. Regularly interact with architects, developers and engineers on projects in diverse sectors including buildings, energy, industry and transport.

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

A bachelor's degree in relevant academic discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering; Physics and Digital Engineering.

Skills and experience such as:

  • A strong interest in fluid dynamics and how it impacts the built environment.
  • A strong interest in numerical, statistical and/or physical modelling.
  • Experience with coding languages, such as Python or MATLAB

  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
