Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Chelmsford is seeking a Graduate/Assistant Town Planner to join a well-established planning consultancy. You’ll work alongside Chartered Town Planners on a varied portfolio.

The role offers exposure to day-to-day development management and strategic planning, with opportunities to develop technical skills and client-facing experience in private-sector planning.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, Geography or related discipline.
• Some understanding of the UK planning system.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a wider team; driving licence advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications
• Undertaking planning appraisals and research
• Supporting senior planners with planning strategies and client advice
• Preparing planning statements, reports and representations
• Assisting with appeals, enforcement matters and planning enquiries
• Liaising with clients, local authorities and other consultants
• Supporting the promotion of development sites through the planning system
• Gaining exposure to residential, commercial, rural and mixed-use projects
