SOAS University of London, Bloomsbury, London, seeks a Graduate Teaching Assistant or Teaching Fellow to lead tutorials for two compulsory MA modules in Gender Studies. The role targets candidates who have completed or are near completion of a doctoral programme with a strong background in gender and queer theory.

Teaching postgraduate students is desirable and the role is paid hourly. The position is fixed-term with an emphasis on preparing and delivering teaching, marking at the basic hourly

• Support students, including non-native English speakers, in navigating complex theories.
• Contribute to course administration and assessment as part of the teaching contract.

Salary: Contact hours are paid at a multiplier of 2.5 basic hours for group teaching to include preparation time spent in the classroom delivering teaching, class preparation; course administration; ('the multiplier') totalling £56.96/ £67.49 (basic hourly rate starts from £23.46 per hour, inclusive of London Allowance). Marking is paid at the basic hourly rate using plain time hours (from £23.46) and is part of the teaching contract.

The Department of Gender Studies at SOAS is an interdisciplinary space promoting research and teaching on gender and sexuality with particular reference to Asia, Africa, the Middle East and their diasporas.

About The Role

SOAS Department of Gender Studies seeks a Graduate Teaching Assistant or Teaching Fellow to lead tutorials for two of compulsory modules associated with our MA programmes: Gender Theory and the Study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East (Semester 1) and Feminist Theory and the Study Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (Semester 2)

We are seeking GTAs or teaching fellows who have finished or are at an advanced stage of a doctoral programme, and with a strong background in gender and queer theory. Priority will be given to those with an academic background in gender/queer studies, but those from related fields with a strong grounding in relevant theory will be considered.

A background teaching postgraduate students is desirable, although not required. We are looking for tutors with strong communication skills who are confident teaching native and non-native English speakers from around the globe, and helping students navigate complex theories and sensitive subjects.
