Job description

Division: Rail/Bridges
Location: Manchester, UK

Ayesa Engineering is a global engineering consultancy with over 13,000 employees, where our UK & Ireland business combines international strength with the agility and autonomy of an SME.

With a presence in 40 countries, Ayesa Engineering has built a strong international reputation across a diverse range of engineering disciplines. Our expertise includes water and flood infrastructure, transportation, marine and coastal engineering, geoscience, environmental services, energy, and building structures.

Our UK & Ireland teams deliver technically challenging, varied projects that develop broad expertise without confining people to narrow roles — offering the opportunity to make a meaningful local impact while benefiting from the stability, knowledge, and career opportunities of a well-established global organisation.

Why join our Rail & Bridges team?

This is an opportunity to start your structural engineering career within a specialist Rail & Bridges team, working on a wide variety of live projects across the UK.

You will gain experience across the full engineering lifecycle, from structural inspections and surveys through to analysis, design, assessment and construction. You will have the opportunity to work both in the office and on site, allowing you to see how the engineering principles you learn at university are applied to real structures and live construction projects.

You will work alongside experienced engineers who will support your technical development and give you the opportunity to build your knowledge and confidence on real projects. You will also work with clients, contractors and other disciplines, providing valuable insight into how engineering projects are developed and delivered.

We are committed to developing the next generation of engineers, with opportunities for technical training, professional development, professional membership and support towards Chartership.

Position
  • Working as a member of a project team to deliver quality civil/structural engineering services to clients
  • Assisting with the design and assessment of structural elements associated with rail and bridge infrastructure
  • Supporting the delivery of structural designs in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and client requirements
  • Assisting with calculations, analysis, design development and technical reporting
  • Supporting the preparation of drawings, specifications and other technical deliverables
  • Attending site inspections, surveys and construction activities, gaining practical experience of how structural designs are assessed, developed and implemented on site
  • Working collaboratively with contractors, clients and other project stakeholders
  • Developing practical engineering skills through a combination of office-based design work, site experience and relevant training, supported by experienced engineers
  • Monitoring processes and results and ensuring that they comply with relevant safety, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to make appropriate judgments and decisions and exercise initiative, with support from experienced engineers
  • Developing an understanding of project requirements, programmes, budgets and client expectations
  • Management of projects in compliance with Ayesa Engineering's Integrated Management System (IMS)
  • Represents and promotes Ayesa in a professional manner and develops effective working relationships with clients and potential clients
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a relevant field
  • Can effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and outside agencies and build effective working relationships while always aiming to exceed client expectations
  • Is committed to Continued Professional Development
  • Demonstrates an interest in structural engineering and the rail/bridges sector
  • Knowledge or understanding of structural engineering principles, including structural analysis, design and assessment
  • Knowledge or understanding of relevant structural materials, such as steel, concrete and masonry
  • Understanding of relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and/or other applicable design standards would be desirable
  • Proven ability, or willingness to develop skills, in relevant structural engineering software
  • Good report writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience of working on rail, bridges or other infrastructure projects would be desirable but not essential
  • A proactive approach to learning and developing technical knowledge within a multidisciplinary engineering environment

You don't need to have all the answers. We are looking for graduates with curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. You will be supported by experienced engineers as you develop your technical knowledge, practical skills and professional confidence.
