Job summary

Ayesa is seeking a dedicated graduate structural engineer to join our Rail & Bridges team in Manchester. You will work on live UK projects across the full engineering lifecycle, gaining exposure from inspections to construction on-site and in-office environments.

You will learn from experienced engineers, engage with clients and contractors, and develop toward professional chartership with supported CPD and formal training.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Complies with Codes of Practice, Design Standards and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Effective communication with clients, colleagues and agencies; strive to exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality structural engineering services to clients.
  • Assist with design and assessment of structural elements for rail and bridge infrastructure.
  • Support delivery of designs per relevant standards and client requirements.
  • Assist with structural calculations, analysis, design development and technical reporting.
  • Assist with drawings, specifications and other technical deliverables.
  • Assist with site inspections and understanding on-site implementation.
  • Monitor processes to ensure safety, regulatory compliance.
  • Develop judgment and initiative with support from experienced engineers.
  • Assist at tender stage of projects.
  • Understand project requirements, programmes, budgets and client expectations.
  • Manage projects in line with IMS requirements.

This is an opportunity to start your structural engineering career within a specialist Rail & Bridges team, working on a wide variety of live projects across the UK.

You will gain experience across the full engineering lifecycle, from structural inspections and surveys through to analysis, design, assessment and construction. You will have the opportunity to work both in the office and on site, allowing you to see how the engineering principles you learn at university are applied to real structures and live construction projects.

You will work alongside experienced engineers who will support your technical development and give you the opportunity to build your knowledge and confidence on real projects. You will also work with clients, contractors and other disciplines, providing valuable insight into how engineering projects are developed and delivered.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Working as a member of a project team to deliver quality structural engineering services to clients
  • Assisting with the design and assessment of structural elements associated with rail and bridge infrastructure
  • Supporting the delivery of structural designs in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and client requirements
  • Assisting with structural calculations, analysis, design development and technical reporting
  • Supporting the preparation of drawings, specifications and other technical deliverables
  • Assisting with site inspections and surveys, and developing an understanding of how structural designs are implemented on site
  • Monitors processes and results and ensures that they comply with relevant safety, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to make appropriate judgments and decisions and exercise initiative, with support from experienced engineers
  • Assisting at the tender stage of projects
  • Developing an understanding of project requirements, programmes, budgets and client expectations
  • Management of projects in compliance with Ayesa Engineering's Integrated Management System (IMS)
Requirements

What You Bring

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a relevant field
  • Adheres to all Codes of Practice, Design Standards and Health and Safety Regulations
  • Can effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and outside agencies and build effective working relationships while always aiming to exceed client expectations
  • Represents and promotes Ayesa in a professional manner and develops effective working relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Is committed to Continued Professional Development
  • Demonstrates an interest in structural engineering and the rail/bridges sector
  • Knowledge or understanding of structural engineering principles, including structural analysis, design and assessment
  • Knowledge or understanding of relevant structural materials, such as steel, concrete and masonry
  • Understanding of relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and/or other applicable design standards would be desirable
  • Proven ability, or willingness to develop skills, in relevant structural engineering software
  • Good report writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience of working on rail, bridges or other infrastructure projects would be desirable
  • A proactive approach to learning and developing technical knowledge within a multidisciplinary engineering environment
