Job summary

Pertemps Education Network in South London is seeking Graduate SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional needs across primary and specialist schools. The role offers flexible part-time or longer-term placements, with duties including 1:1 and small-group support, and collaboration with teachers and SENCOs.

Ideal for graduates in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies or related fields aiming to gain experience while studying or pursuing careers in education or therapy.

Qualifications

• Degree in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Speech and Language or related subject.
• Genuine interest in working with children with additional needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, calm and nurturing approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children.
• Reliability and a professional attitude.
• Willingness to learn and develop specialist SEN knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs.
• Support children with autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs and learning difficulties.
• Help pupils develop communication, confidence, independence and social skills.
• Assist pupils to access the curriculum through differentiated activities and personalised strategies.
• Promote positive behaviour and help pupils manage emotions and transitions.
• Use visual supports, structured routines and communication strategies where appropriate.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunch and wider school activities.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals.
• Provide a calm, consistent and encouraging presence for pupils who may require additional support.
