Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Didsbury area, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and helping them engage in learning.

Ideal candidates are recent graduates with a passion for helping vulnerable young people, excellent communication skills, and patience. DBS clearance may be required, and full CPD training is provided through Teaching Personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build trusting relationships to support emotional wellbeing and development.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
• Implement behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, enrichment activities and visits.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff.

Are you a recent graduate looking to build a rewarding career in education, psychology, mental health, social work, or youth support? Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Didsbury area, supporting pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Students may experience challenges such as anxiety, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, attachment difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma-related behaviours, social communication needs, and difficulties engaging in mainstream education. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while making a genuine difference in young people's lives.

The Role

As a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide tailored support that enables students to thrive both academically and emotionally. Your role will focus on building positive relationships, promoting engagement in learning, and helping pupils develop the confidence and coping strategies needed for success.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional wellbeing and personal development.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
• Implement behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies.
• Support pupils who may present challenging behaviours in a calm and consistent manner.
• Encourage independence, social skills, resilience, and positive decision-making.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
• Support students during lessons, breaktimes, enrichment activities, and educational visits.
