Job summary

The University of Exeter is recruiting a Graduate Research Associate to support the XRAD project led by Dr Tom Arthur. This part-time (0.2 FTE) fixed-term post runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027.

You will assist with data collection and analysis, run laboratory assessments, and help prepare research outputs for reports, conferences, and public engagement activities. The role requires a first degree in a related field, strong research methods knowledge, and the ability to communicate

Qualifications

  • Candidate educated to first degree level in a related field and with knowledge of research methods.
  • Ability to independently conduct basic data collection and analysis procedures.
  • Experience leading participatory research activities such as co-design meetings/workshops and disseminating results.

About The Role

This ESRC funded part-time (0.2 FTE) post is available from 1st October 2026 until 30th September 2027.

This post is offered as a fixed term contract and is funded by ESRC until 30 September 2027.

Salary will be £33,951 (pro rata) on Grade E subject to knowledge, skills and experience.

The Role

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Associate to support the work of Dr Tom Arthur. The successful applicant will assist with the collection and analysis of research data, as part of the Extended Reality for Autistic Drivers (XRAD) project: https://medicine.exeter.ac.uk/phss/research/vital/autistic-drivers/.

The post will include undertaking a broad range of research activities according to the requirements of the project. This will involve organising, setting up and conducting laboratory assessments, as well as analysing data and preparing research outputs (e.g. content for scientific reports, conference presentations, website resources, and public engagement events).

About You

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to independently undertake basic data collection and analysis procedures. They will demonstrate capability for leading participatory research activities, such as the running of co-design meetings/workshops, synthesis of co-created data, and dissemination of co-produced study results.
