Job summary

Bosch Rexroth HydraForce in Birmingham offers a Graduate Placement (12-24 Months) in Advanced Engineering & Product Development to develop new products, technologies and engineering solutions. You will contribute across mechanical, electrical/electronic and control systems, translating requirements into engineering solutions and supporting prototype development.

Qualifications

  • Degree in an engineering or closely related technical discipline (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronic, Control Systems, Systems, Robotics, Automation, Automotive, Aerospace, Manufacturing)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Genuine interest in multidisciplinary engineering and emerging technologies
  • Ability to understand complex technical problems and develop logical solutions

Responsibilities

  • Support development of new products, technologies and engineering solutions.
  • Assist with concept generation, feasibility studies and technical investigations.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into engineering requirements and solutions.
  • Support design, development and optimisation of prototypes and production products.
  • Undertake engineering calculations, simulations and technical analysis.
  • Assist with design reviews, technical presentations and engineering documentation.
  • Investigate technical problems and develop data-driven solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement and new technologies in products and processes.
  • Develop understanding of complex engineering systems and their interactions.
  • Assist with system requirements, architectures and specifications.
  • Support integration of mechanical, electrical, electronic and software systems.
  • Assist with system-level testing, validation and verification.
  • Develop system block diagrams and documentation.
  • Support root-cause investigations and performance improvements.
  • Consider reliability, safety, cost and manufacturability throughout development.
  • Support the development/integration of control systems and automation technologies.
  • Assist with PLC, HMI and control-system development.
  • Work with sensors, actuators, valves and motors.
  • Support control strategies and logic development.
  • Assist with commissioning, testing and troubleshooting automated equipment.
  • Investigate opportunities to improve process automation and machine performance.

Advanced Engineering & Product Development

  • Support the development of new products, technologies and engineering solutions.

  • Support the selection and integration of electrical and electronic components.

  • Work with sensors, transducers, controllers and embedded devices.
  • Support hardware/software integration and system testing.
  • Assist with data acquisition, monitoring and diagnostic systems.
  • Develop an understanding of embedded control and communication technologies.

Mechanical Engineering

  • Support mechanical design and development activities.
  • Produce and modify engineering drawings and 3D CAD models where required.
  • Assist with component selection, design calculations and tolerance analysis.
  • Support prototype manufacture, assembly and testing.
  • Investigate mechanical performance, failure modes and design improvements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and production engineering teams to ensure designs are practical and cost‑effective.

Testing, Validation & Data Analysis

  • Develop test plans and test procedures.
  • Support laboratory, prototype and product testing.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret engineering data.
  • Use data to identify trends, performance issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Document test results and make recommendations based on engineering evidence.
  • Support product verification and validation activities.

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Work as part of multidisciplinary engineering project teams.
  • Support project planning, risk management and technical problem solving.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and Commercial teams.
  • Liaise with suppliers and technology partners where required.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to engineering and management teams.
  • Manage allocated engineering tasks and deliver them within agreed timescales.
