Graduate Mental Health Nurse
Location:Chorley, Lancashire
Hours:Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay:£13.75 per hour
Start Date:2nd September 2025

Are you a compassionate and resilient graduate Mental Health Nurse looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We are currently seeking a dedicated individual to join a dynamic Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) on a full-time basis.

About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education or who require additional support due to behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges. You will play a key role in supporting the wellbeing, engagement, and academic progress of students aged between 11 and 16, many of whom may present with complex and challenging behaviours.

What is a PRU?
A Pupil Referral Unit is a type of alternative provision that provides tailored education and support for students who are unable to attend mainstream schools. PRUs are nurturing environments where a holistic approach is taken to address the social, emotional and behavioural needs of pupils, helping them to re-engage with learning and build positive futures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and behavioural support to pupils throughout the school day

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams to deliver personalised learning strategies

  • Support pupils with their mental health needs, drawing on your clinical knowledge and training

  • Help maintain a safe and structured learning environment

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage positive behaviour and engagement

  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)

  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and wellbeing

Ideal Candidate:

  • A recent Mental Health Nursing graduate (or in the final stages of qualification)

  • Passionate about working with young people facing barriers to education

  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and empathetic manner

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A team player with a proactive and flexible approach

  • Experience in a school or youth setting is desirable but not essential
