Learning Mentor (SEN)

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Are you looking for a dynamic and rewarding role where you can utilize your skills and experience? Philosophy Education is working with a Secondary School based in Ealing that is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Learning Mentor to join their team.

The school, which Philosophy Education represents as an Outstanding mainstream secondary school, is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that every student receives the individual attention and support they need to thrive.

The Role:

The SEN Learning Mentor will focus on improving the academic standards of students, working predominantly within curriculum subjects such as English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, or Chemistry (KS3-4).

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with additional needs, including SEMH.

You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized support plans. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to help students manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Supporting students in their academic, social, and personal development.
  • Helping students prepare for upcoming exams.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitoring and assessing students' progress and adjusting support plans as needed.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary pupils, ideally within mainstream or special schools.
  • Graduate or tuition background.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • A commitment to promoting equality and inclusion.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEMH support.
  • Experience working in a secondary school setting.
