Job description

Graduate Infrastructure Surveyor - Bristol role at Carter Jonas

Build the world you want to live in with a career in the infrastructure property sector.

We are looking for an ambitious Graduate to join our growing Infrastructure team in Bristol.

Our society is changing, as can be seen in news reports every day. Housing shortages, changing high streets, water shortages, climate change, biodiversity, energy supplies, renewable energy and the switch to electric cars from 2035 are all issues that our society is facing today. Our towns, cities and countryside have to adapt to the change, and you could be part of building the world we want to live in.

The team

Our infrastructure team is the fastest growing of its kind in the country, now with 180 people in seven offices around the UK, working with major clients including Network Rail, HS2, National Highways, National Grid, Homes England and the Crown Estate.

Operating in both rural and urban environments, our Infrastructure graduates are directly involved in delivering the world we need for the 21st Century and beyond. We cover an array of services to clients within the following sectors:

  • Energy
  • Telecommunications
  • Utilities
  • Transport
  • Geospatial / GIS
  • Property / Asset management
The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an effective individual to become part of our team that delivers real change to people’s lives. You will deal with a wide range of property clients from local Councils and London Boroughs, Network Rail, DfT, TfL, Water companies, and Telecoms providers to homeowners, farmers, equestrian and agri businesses and small and multinational commercial businesses. You will take an active part in assisting with the negotiation of acquisition and relocation packages for a range of property types including farming businesses, commercial and industrial businesses and residential property, supporting the consenting and delivery of major infrastructure projects.

Your work each day will vary, you could be supporting with gaining consent for access across third party land, negotiating lease events, acquiring land and buildings, negotiating business relocations, asset acquisitions and disposals, valuations and contributing to strategic land acquisition reports. You will undertake site visits, meet clients and colleagues, and attend public consultation events.

You will take an active role in the development and implementation of efficient, ‘best practice’ internal systems and processes, optimising IT and other resources. You will gain experience in some specialised and sought‑after skills including land assembly negotiations and compulsory purchase which are in short supply in the market. Our in‑house Academy training course will give you a head start with over 20 hours of CPD.

Clients are at the heart of what we do, so ensuring you develop and maintain strong relationships with our clients is essential, this includes attending client meetings and preparing communications and reports.

What will it take to be successful?

Candidates applying to Infrastructures will be from a variety of backgrounds, we are interested in receiving applications from students available to join us in Autumn 2025 who have a keen interest in the infrastructure of our country and the ways we can make a difference to the world we live in. You will be from land management, environmental, infrastructure, planning & development, land administration, geography, real estate and various educational backgrounds, you will develop a broad understanding of the role in the entire property/real estate lifecycle from land registration/mapping to management to development to remediation and re use.

Ideally you will have a RICS accredited degree, however we do welcome applications from candidates with non‑accredited degrees and other relevant qualifications. For GIS and Geospatial opportunities, you will be able to follow the CICES: Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors and RGS: Royal Geographic Society as Chartered GIS / Geographers.

Experience within a real estate across the rural, commercial or energy sectors gained through work experience, or placements will be an advantage. It is essential that you have a full driving licence as regular travel is required.

We employ the very best people. We are a place where people want to work, and our culture is both collaborative and business minded.

Ahead of the curve, we are pioneering in the use of technology within the property industry, making Carter Jonas a hugely exciting place to work.
