Job description

Ringway Jacobs is seeking a motivated and skilled Graduate Engineer to join our Structures Team in Chelmsford. We are looking for a candidate with strong analytical skills and, ideally, some experience in a design office environment. In this role, you'll play a key part in designing refurbishment and replacement schemes for highway structures, while also conducting periodic inspections.

Working closely with the Team Leader, Senior Engineer, and fellow graduates, you'll be responsible for delivering projects on time and within budget. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, as you'll be preparing detailed engineering reports, contracts, and progress updates.

The Role

1. Contribute to the preparation of Highway Structure schemes
2. Prepare accurate sketches and hand calculations
3. Support survey of highway structures to input into design solutions
4. Check own and others' work to ensure high standards
5. Participate in the inspection of highway structures
6. Assist in budgetary control and financial management
7. Prepare monthly progress reports and program updates

About You

• Familiarity with Eurocodes, modern standards, DMRB, MCHW
• Basic knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Use of AutoCAD for drawing creation
• Knowledge of structural software with some familiarity
