Job description

Novomorphic is a new venture backed by Cadence Design Systems, Welsh Government, and CSA Catapult – established to build critical semiconductor design capability in the UK. Our mission is clear: deliver advanced IC and electronic system design services to support SMEs, scale-ups and large organisations, while growing the UK’s talent base in digital, mixed-signal, and compound semiconductors.

We’re building a company from the ground up—with a culture of ownership, speed, and technical excellence. Everyone who joins has a real stake in shaping the business and its success.

This graduate opportunity is ideal for those who want more than a standard entry-level role. You’ll be exposed to real design environments early in your journey, using industry-standard tools like Cadence and contributing to solutions across AI, power electronics, telecoms, defence, aerospace, and more. Whether you come from a BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng, or PhD background, you’ll develop your engineering skills under the guidance of world‑class mentors with a tailored and intensive training programme.

Position Overview

Novomorphic is seeking up to eight talented and driven graduate engineers to join our growing team. This is a hands‑on engineering role designed for high‑potential graduates who want to grow into roles in IC and electronics design across sectors such as AI, power electronics, automotive, aerospace, telecoms, and defence. You’ll gain experience in design, validation, IP development, and system‑level thinking—supported by experienced engineers and best‑in‑class tools.

Core Responsibilities and Skills

We welcome candidates with experience or interest in any of the following domains—our work spans multiple sectors, and each brings unique challenges and opportunities to learn and grow.

Design and Development

  • Support the design, simulation, and validation of electronic systems and integrated circuits across digital, analogue, mixed‑signal, and power domains.

  • Depending on your background, projects may include:

    • AI & Compute– accelerators and smart edge processors.

    • Automotive & Aerospace– ADAS, electrification, and safety systems.

    • Telecoms & RF– 5G/6G, RF front‑ends, and comms systems.

    • Power & Energy– DC‑DC converters, PMICs, and energy‑efficient electronics.

  • Help optimise designs for power, performance, and robustness.

Collaboration and Learning

  • Work with senior engineers, architects, and validation experts, including our partners.

  • Participate in knowledge sharing, design reviews, and team‑based problem solving.

  • Learn from hands‑on mentorship, with regular feedback and structured onboarding focused on Cadence toolchains and IC design methodology.

Innovation and IP Contribution

  • Support development of reusable IP and contribute to innovation pipelines.

  • Assist in documenting and validating IP for inclusion in our growing portfolio.

  • Explore emerging areas such as neuromorphic computing, wide‑bandgap semiconductors, and advanced packaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education

  • BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng, or PhD in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Academic focus may include:

    • AI hardware and accelerators

    • Power electronics and energy systems

    • RF, telecoms, or wireless systems

    • Automotive or aerospace electronics

    • Digital, analogue, or mixed‑signal circuit design

Experience

  • Practical experience in electronics or IC design—from research, industrial placements, internships, or technical projects.

  • Comfortable with schematics, simulation, layout, or verification workflows.

  • Exposure to design tools such as Cadence, MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, ModelSim, or similar.

  • Familiarity with HDL languages like VHDL or Verilog.

Technical & Behavioural Skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving ability.

  • Curiosity and adaptability in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.

  • A collaborative approach, with clear communication and a proactive mindset.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and a positive "Can do" attitude aligned to a start‑up environment

Preferred (Not Essential)

  • Experience with verification, validation, or lab testing of electronic systems.

  • Familiarity with industry practices or standards (e.g., automotive, telecoms).

  • Involvement in IP development, open hardware, or innovation projects.
