Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join its Water team across UK offices (Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester) with a flexible hybrid work model. You’ll contribute to electrical design in water/wastewater projects, using Amtech and other design tools while collaborating with multi-discipline teams and clients.

You will engage in feasibility through construction design, develop documentation, and pursue professional qualifications with support from AECOM’s graduate

Qualifications

  • MEng in Electrical Engineering (2:1 or above) preferred.
  • Relevant work experience would be an advantage.
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking, technically proficient with ambition and drive.
  • Basic computer skills (Word/Excel) and good report writing ability.
  • Willing to work towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the relevant institution (e.g. IET).
  • Demonstrable interest in water projects.
  • Structure and prioritise work effectively in team settings.
  • Ability to work independently without losing initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical design support for wastewater and water infrastructure projects.
  • Produce power supply capacity assessments, load calculations and diagrams.
  • Prepare MCC/Control Panel specifications including ICA scopes.
  • Create electrical specifications and lighting design details.
  • Utilise Amtech and Electrical OM design tools.
  • Collaborate with internal/external design teams, clients and contractors.
  • Provide timely reporting to client and team lead.
  • Work with civil, mechanical, electrical and process engineers from concept to detail design.
  • Engage with BIM, ProjectWise and digital design tools in projects.

Job description

We are looking for Graduate Electrical Engineers to join our established and growing Water teams with opportunities to be based across our North and Midlands offices - Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds and Manchester while also benefiting from our flexible hybrid working model. The teams are delivering an exciting portfolio of water programmes and projects through long term frameworks with key clients including major UK water companies (Thames Water, Wessex Water, Welsh Water, Severn Trent Water, Southern Water and Yorkshire) and Tier 1 Contractors.

You will have the opportunity to engage in all design stages, including Feasibility, Outline, Detail, and Construction Design, ensuring compliance with National and International Design Standards.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Electrical Design

Support senior and lead electrical engineers in the development and management of all aspects of electrical design in wastewater and water infrastructure / treatment projects, including:

  • Production of power supply capacity assessments and load calculations
  • Production of electrical single line and cable block diagrams
  • Production of cable calculations and cable schedules
  • Production of lighting design specifications
  • Production of Motor Control Centres (MCC)/Control Panel specifications including Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) scopes
  • Production of electrical specification documents
  • Utilise Amtech, Electrical OM software design programmes
  • Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients and contractors as appropriate
  • Provision of timely reporting to both the client and internal team lead.
Collaboration

Work closely with civil, mechanical, electrical and process engineers to deliver a variety of interesting small and large projects from concept to detailed design. Many of the project teams are UK wide, offering an excellent, unbeatable opportunity to share expertise and broaden knowledge through the company.
