Job summary

Tradewind Education is recruiting Graduate Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Rotherham and surrounding areas. You will help maintain continuity of learning when teachers are absent and deliver pre-planned lessons.

This role is ideal for recent graduates considering a career in teaching or youth work. You will gain hands-on classroom experience, develop management skills and build relationships with staff and students.

Qualifications

• A degree in any subject (or be a recent graduate).
• Interest in working within secondary education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong classroom management skills, or the willingness to develop them.
• The right to work in the UK.
• Previous experience with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes of secondary-aged students across a range of subjects, delivering work set by the absent teacher.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively, ensuring students remain focused, engaged and on task.
• Create a positive, safe and supportive learning environment.
• Ensure students understand the work they have been set and encourage task completion.
• Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures.
• Support students with their learning where appropriate, providing guidance and encouragement.
• Report concerns regarding student behaviour, progress or welfare to staff.
• Take registers and ensure students are accounted for throughout lessons.
• Adapt confidently to different school environments, age groups and classroom situations.
• Build positive professional relationships with teaching staff and students.

The Role - Graduate Cover Supervisor

As a Graduate Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning when teachers are absent. You will work across a range of secondary schools, supporting students and ensuring that pre-planned lessons are delivered effectively.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in different school environments, develop your classroom management skills and build valuable relationships with staff and students.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise classes of secondary-aged students across a range of subjects, delivering work set by the absent teacher.
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively, ensuring students remain focused, engaged and on task.

• Ensure students understand the work they have been set and encourage them to complete tasks to the best of their ability.
• Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety.
• Support students with their learning where appropriate, providing guidance and encouragement.
• Report any concerns regarding student behaviour, progress or welfare to the appropriate member of school staff.
• Take registers and ensure students are accounted for throughout lessons.
• Adapt confidently to different school environments, age groups and classroom situations.
• Build positive professional relationships with teaching staff, support staff and students.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• A degree in any subject (or be a recent graduate).
• A genuine interest in working within secondary education.
• A confident, positive and professional approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong classroom management skills, or the confidence and willingness to develop them.
• The ability to build rapport with young people and establish positive relationships.
• A flexible and adaptable attitude, with the ability to work across different schools and subject areas.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to use your initiative.
• The resilience and confidence to manage challenging classroom situations.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• The right to work in the UK.

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential, as full support and guidance will be provided.
