Graduate Control Systems Engineer

Are you a recent Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering graduate looking for a role where you'll work on real engineering projects from day one?

We're working with an established UK manufacturer of highly bespoke automated machinery, supplying advanced equipment to customers across the globe. As part of their continued growth, they're looking to recruit a Graduate Control Systems Engineer to join their engineering team.

This is an outstanding opportunity to develop your career in industrial automation, working alongside experienced engineers who will mentor and support your progression into a fully-fledged Control Systems Engineer.

Unlike many graduate roles, you'll gain exposure to the complete project lifecycle from concept and software development through to machine testing, commissioning and customer installation.

The Role

As a Graduate Control Systems Engineer, you'll support the design, development and commissioning of advanced machine control systems used within precision manufacturing environments.

Working closely with experienced Control Systems Engineers, you'll develop your technical skills while contributing to the delivery of bespoke engineering projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the development of PLC, CNC and robot control software.
  • Supporting the programming of industrial automation systems.
  • Helping develop HMI (Human Machine Interface) software.
  • Assisting with the design of electrical control systems and electrical schematics.
  • Supporting machine testing, commissioning and fault finding.
  • Diagnosing and resolving control system issues with support from senior engineers.
  • Working with servo drives, motors, sensors, pneumatics and industrial communication networks.
  • Collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers throughout project delivery.
  • Producing technical documentation and supporting engineering records.

No previous industry experience is required full training and mentoring will be provided.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, is naturally curious and is keen to build a long-term career within industrial automation.

You’ll ideally have:

  • An interest in PLCs, industrial automation or control systems.
  • Basic programming knowledge from university, personal projects or placements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering team.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for learning.
What You’ll Gain

This role has been designed to give graduates genuine engineering responsibility from the beginning while providing structured support and development.

You’ll benefit from:

  • A structured graduate development programme.
  • A dedicated mentor to support your technical and professional development.
  • Formal training, including Siemens TIA Portal and SINUMERIK courses.
  • Hands‑on experience working on complex bespoke automation and CNC machinery.
  • Exposure to the full engineering lifecycle, from design through to commissioning.
  • Opportunities to visit customer sites and see your work in operation.
  • Six‑monthly salary reviews based on your development and performance.
  • A clear progression path into a Control Systems Engineer position.
Benefits
