Job Description
At Sage, content designers play a critical role in making our software easy to use for millions of small and medium-sized business owners around the world. We focus on the content and information within our products that help users understand what to do and achieve their goals quickly and confidently. This is different from content marketing, which focuses on promoting the product outside of the software.
We're looking for a Graduate Content Designer to join our team. This is a learning role where you'll get hands-on experience creating and improving the content in our small business software. You'll work closely with, and be supported by, experienced content designers.
This role is all about learning by doing. With support from senior team members, you’ll:
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine the content in our software: This includes the short text on buttons, in menus, helpful tips, and messages that guide users. We call this 'microcopy,' and your focus will be making it clear, accurate, and easy to understand for everyone.
- Help shape the user journey: Understand how users move through the software and figure out what information they need at each step to complete their tasks successfully.
- Work with the design team: Collaborate with our user experience (UX) designers to decide how content fits into the screens and flows users interact with. You will help with simple sketches or layouts that show where content will go and edit digital prototypes.
- Learn from our users: Work with user researchers to learn how people use the product and understand where the words and journeys might be confusing. You'll use these insights to suggest and make improvements.
- Connect with other teams: Talk to people in different parts of the business to understand what the software needs to do and share the content you're creating.
- Prepare content for a global audience: Learn how we get our content ready to be translated into different languages for users around the world.
- Use our tools and guidelines: Get familiar with our writing style guides, design standards, and content tools to ensure consistency across the product.
To be eligible for this role, you'll need to be educated to a Degree level. We're open to the degree discipline as long as you have the educational background or relevant experience. Alongside this you'll be,
- Passionate about making a difference.
- Inquisitive and observant with a keen eye for detail.
- Honesty and integrity, professionalism, and positive attitude.
- Team player and not afraid to contribute new ideas.
- Highly motivated self-starter.
- Resilient with the determination to respond to the changing demands of the business.
- Able to perform well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- PowerPoint and Microsoft Office experience.
These roles are based in our Newcastle office. You'll be in the office at least 3 days a week so will need to live in (or be willing to relocate to) an easily commutable distance.
