Job description

Graduate Construction Manager

At Tilbury Douglas, you won’t just be starting your career – you’ll be helping to deliver projects that make a real difference to people and communities.

As a Graduate Construction (Site) Manager, you’ll gain hands‑on experience from day one, working alongside experienced site managers, project managers and delivery teams. You’ll support the planning, coordination and delivery of live construction projects, helping to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

You’ll develop a strong understanding of how projects are delivered from start to finish, building your technical, organisational and leadership skills while contributing to important buildings and infrastructure that make a real difference to the communities they serve.

This is a site‑based role, with your initial project expected to be based in Birmingham and the West Midlands. As you develop, you’ll have opportunities to gain experience across a variety of projects, clients and locations within the wider West Midlands Region, helping you build broad operational experience and a strong foundation for your career in construction management.

You’ll learn from experienced professionals, take on real responsibility and see first‑hand how projects come to life – building strong foundations for your future career with Tilbury Douglas.

What you’ll be doing

As a Graduate Construction Manager, you’ll rotate across key areas to develop your skills and gain the experience you need to progress towards professional accreditation.

No two days are the same and, with the support of experienced colleagues, you’ll:

  • Assist with the day-to-day management of site operations, helping to keep works safe, efficient and on programme.
  • Support the coordination of subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
  • Contribute to planning meetings, progress reviews and project updates.
  • Monitor quality standards, health and safety compliance, and environmental performance.
  • Help manage site logistics, temporary works and the sequencing of construction activities.
  • Develop an understanding of commercial processes, including cost control and project reporting.
  • Produce and maintain accurate site records, reports and documentation.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and project teams.
Why this role?

This isn’t just about construction – it’s about leadership. You’ll be supported to develop the technical, practical and people skills to become a trusted construction professional. With mentoring, structured training and support towards CIOB accreditation, you’ll be on a clear pathway to becoming a Chartered Construction Manager.

What we’re looking for

We want to hear from people who are passionate about making a difference through construction and the built environment. You’ll bring:

  • A degree (or expected in 2027) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline (2:2 or above).
  • A full UK driving licence, or be working towards obtaining one by February 2027.
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with a practical and proactive approach.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
  • A collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm to learn and take on responsibility.
  • A keen eye for detail, quality and safe working practices.
  • Previous placement or site experience is desirable but not essential.
What we offer

Start your career with a programme designed to help you learn, develop and succeed from day one.

  • A structured two-year Graduate Development Programme, giving you the experience and skills to build a successful career.
  • Support towards professional accreditation with CIOB, alongside mentoring and guidance from experienced industry professionals.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package, including car allowance, Performance Related Pay and up to 8% matched pension contributions.
  • 26 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with the flexibility to buy or sell additional days.
  • Private medical insurance, 24/7 wellbeing support and a wide range of flexible benefits and employee discounts.
  • Two volunteering days each year, giving you time to make a difference in the community.
Selection Process Timeline
  • Video Interview– Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a video interview. Invitations will be sent between 16 November and 1 December 2026, and candidates will have one week to complete and submit their interview.
  • Interview– Successful candidates will progress to a formal interview, taking place between 11 and 27 January 2027.
