Job summary

Carrington West in Bedford is seeking a Graduate Engineer to join the civil engineering team. Training and mentorship will be provided across drainage design, planning submissions, and groundworks packages for tender/construction.

You will work on residential and non-residential projects across the UK, liaising with the engineering team and supporting technicians and apprentices as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree level education is desirable.
• Understanding of UK drainage and flood risk is desirable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Excel and general MS Office use.

Responsibilities

• Assist on residential and non-residential UK projects.
• Liaise with the wider engineering team and stakeholders.
• Assist technicians/apprentices and delegate tasks where appropriate.
• Use Flow and PDS to model drainage networks and road designs.
• Prepare planning submission packs (Outline/Detail/Full).
• Support technical design submissions (S38/S278/S104) through to approval.
• Complete groundworks packages for tender/construction.
• Develop private off-plot civil designs and earthworks.

Job Purpose

Due to the continued and strong workload in the civil engineering team, my client has the need for a Graduate Engineer in their Bedford office.

Job Description

• As a Graduate engineer, training and mentorship will be provided within the following scope
• Working on various residential and non-residential projects around the UK, from small private developers to national house builders and master planning schemes.
• Liaise and communicate with the wider engineering team
• Delegation of tasks to technicians/apprentices, and assistance throughout
• Use drainage & 3D design software such as Flow and PDS respectively, to model drainage networks and produce road designs/ground models.
• Prepare submission packs for planning (Outline/Detail/Full)
• Complete technical design submissions (S38/S278/S104) through to approval Complete groundworks packages for tender/construction
• Produce private engineering designs for on plot civils works
• An understanding of the planning process and associated documents (e.g. Flood Risk Assessments)

Knowledge & Skills

• Relevant degree level education desirable
• An understanding of UK Drainage/Flood Risk is desirable
• Microsoft software (Word/Excel etc)

Experience Profile

• As a Graduate engineer, training and mentorship will be provided within the following scope, but an understanding would be desirable
• Technical submissions (S38/S278/S104)
• Engineering drawings supporting planning submissions
• Private plot work design
• Earthwork designs
• Evidence of communication skills, confident with client/third party interaction
