Kier Group is seeking a Graduate Carbon Specialist to join the Sustainability and Climate team. Based in a flexible base location with 40-hour weeks, the role focuses on decarbonisation and sustainability assessments for buildings and infrastructure.

The programme runs 2 years and leads to an assistant level role with salary potential around £38k. Starting salary is £31,000 per annum, with September 2027 as start date.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in 2027 or within the past 3 years.
  • Degree in Environmental or Sustainability field.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking with attention to detail.
  • Interest in environmental management and the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Support carbon assessments for buildings and infrastructure (Whole Life Carbon).
  • Contribute to carbon management plans and sustainability assessments.
  • Assist with green building certification assessments (BREEAM, LEED, NABERS, WELL).
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement sessions and workshops to promote sustainability and carbon reduction.
  • Support bid preparation and technical challenges.

Job description

We're looking for a Graduate Carbon Specialist to join our Sustainability and Climate team based out of one ofour offices nationwide
Location: Flexible with base location
Hours: 40 hours per week
Starting Salary: £31,000 per annum
Pathway: Permanent, Full-time 2-year programme, leading to assistant level role upon completion with salary potential of CIRCA £38k
Starting date: September 2027

Assessment centre dates according toyour local region:
  • London - 30th November/1st December 2026
  • Salford - 8th and 9th December 2026
  • Birmingham - 13th and 14th January 2027

This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate to join our Sustainability and Climate Team, where you'll gain hands‑on experience in decarbonisation initiatives and sustainability assessments. You'll receive mentorship from experienced professionals and develop a strong foundation in sustainability while contributing to meaningful projects that make a real difference to our environment and communities.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Graduate Carbon Specialist, you'll be working within the Sustainability and Climate team, supporting them in delivering decarbonisation initiatives and sustainability assessments. Your day to day will include:

  • Supporting carbon assessments for buildings and infrastructure, including Whole Life Carbon Assessments
  • Contributing to the development of carbon management plans and sustainability assessments
  • Assisting with green building certification assessments such as BREEAM, LEED, NABERS, and WELL
  • Participating in stakeholder engagement sessions and workshops to promote sustainability and carbon reduction
  • Supporting the team with bid preparation and technical challenges

We're looking for people due to graduate in 2027, or have recently graduated within the past three years, with a Environmental or Sustainabiloty degree. Thisrole of Graduate Carbon Specialist is great for you if you:

  • Have a degree (or are working towards one) in an Environmental or Sustainability related discipline
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in environmental management and the construction industry
  • Have strong analytical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Show enthusiasm for learning new skills and the ability to adapt in response to feedback
  • Hold a Full driving licence
