Position: Graduate Apprentice Child Development Officer

Location: Glasgow City (various positions)

Hours: 35 hours across 5 days – 52 weeks

Contract: Fixed term, up to 3 years

Are you interested in a career in Early Years, working with young children? Do you want to support children’s needs and develop your skills in the education sector? We are recruiting Graduate Apprentices for our Early Years Programme starting September 2025.

About the Role:

Our Graduate Apprenticeship Programme enables you to work in an Early Years Establishment while completing the required qualifications. You will split your time between practical nursery work (4 days) and university study (1 day a week).

In the nursery, you will be a key team member, working with children and colleagues, building positive relationships and promoting good behaviour. You will assist in recording children’s progress and supporting the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including outdoor play.

You will help deliver high-quality education and support an inclusive, diverse Early Years service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Building positive relationships with children and supporting positive behaviour.
  • Supporting the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including outdoor activities.
  • Helping develop plans and programmes to meet the needs of all children.
  • Supporting lunchtime routines.
  • Assisting with children’s personal care, comfort, and minor first aid.
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Working with parents, carers, health professionals, and other stakeholders.
What We Seek:

To qualify for the programme, you must meet the minimum entry requirements:

  • BBBC (102 UCAS points) plus National 5 English, or
  • CCC (63 UCAS points) plus National 5 English at Grade C or above, or
  • Alternative minimum requirements include:
  • CC (42 UCAS points) plus National 5 English at Grade C or above, and
  • Completion of one of the following: UWS Next Steps to University, Routes for All, Top-Up, LEAPS, or an equivalent qualification in Childhood Practice, plus sector-specific work experience.

You should have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team, provide high standards of care, remain calm in challenging situations, and be empathetic, flexible, and reliable. You must be committed to studying and gaining practical experience to achieve a BA in Early Learning and Childcare (SCQF Level 9) within 3 years. Membership of the PVG Scheme and SSSC registration will be required.
