Position: Graduate Apprentice Child Development Officer

Location: Glasgow City (various positions)

Hours: 35 hours across 5 days - 52 weeks

Annual Salary: £24,183.81 - £25,716.37

Contract: Fixed term, up to 3 years

Are you looking for a career in Early Years, working with our young children? Do you have an interest in supporting and caring for children's needs? Are you keen to develop your skills and work in the education sector? We're recruiting Graduate Apprentices for our Early Years Programme starting in September 2025.

About the Role:

Our Graduate Apprenticeship Programme allows you to work in an Early Years Establishment while completing the necessary qualifications for the role. Your time will be split between experiential learning in a nursery setting for 4 days and attending university for 1 day a week.

While in the nursery, you will be a key member of the team, working with children and colleagues, building positive relationships, and promoting positive behaviour in line with policy. You will assist in recording and reporting children's progress and support the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including outdoor play.

In all roles, you will support Early Years colleagues in delivering high standards of education and an inclusive, diverse service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Building positive relationships with children and supporting positive behaviour.
  2. Supporting the delivery of the Early Years curriculum, including outdoor activities.
  3. Assisting in developing plans and programmes to meet all service users' needs.
  4. Supporting a high-quality lunch-time experience.
  5. Assisting with children's personal care, comfort, and minor accident interventions.
  6. Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  7. Working collaboratively with parents, carers, health professionals, and other stakeholders.

What We Seek:

  • Minimum course entry requirements:

BBBC (102 UCAS Tariff points) plus National 5 English. A Foundation Apprenticeship may be considered.

Or

CCC (63 UCAS Tariff points) plus National 5 English at Grade C or above.

Alternative Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • CC (42 UCAS Tariff points), plus National 5 English at Grade C or above, AND one of the following:
  • UWS Foundation Academy
  • Foundation Apprenticeship
  • UWS Next Steps to University module
  • Routes for All
  • Top-Up
  • LEAPS
  • Relevant National Qualification in Childhood Practice or equivalent
  • Appropriate Modern Apprenticeship
  • One year of sector-specific work experience at a comparable level

Skills and attributes include good communication, teamwork, high standard of care, calmness, empathy, flexibility, initiative, and commitment to studying and gaining practical experience to attain a BA in Early Learning and Childcare (SCQF Level 9) within 3 years. Membership of PVG Scheme and SSSC registration are required.
