Job summary

Step Into Teaching is recruiting a Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant / Academic Mentor for a supportive secondary school in the B37 area of Birmingham. This paid, hands-on classroom experience will support pupils in Maths and build skills for teacher training starting September 2026.

We are seeking maths graduates (or related subjects) with a 2:2 degree or above who are final-year students graduating in 2026.

Qualifications

• Maths graduate and future teacher training interest.
• Final-year students graduating in 2026 encouraged to apply.

• Genuine interest in supporting young people and education.
• Confident, adaptable and proactive in approach.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in KS3 and KS4 Maths lessons.
• Work one-to-one and with small groups to improve confidence, engagement and attainment.
• Deliver targeted Maths interventions for pupils needing extra help.
• Assist the class teacher with learning activities and routines.
• Adapt support for pupils with different abilities and learning needs.
• Help create a positive, inclusive environment where pupils feel confident asking questions.

Who we are looking for

• A Maths graduate, or a graduate in a related subject such as Physics, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science or Statistics
