Primary Care Sheffield is seeking a GP with Extended Role for ADHD to lead the PCS ADHD service. You will conduct NICE-guided assessments, formulate diagnoses and management plans, and oversee treatment plus shared care arrangements. You will work within a robust MDT to ensure governance, safety, and high-quality patient care.

You will support learning, contribute to service development, and help deliver performance targets within a not-for-profit NHS framework in Sheffield.

Qualifications

  • GMC Registration is essential.
  • Experience with NICE ADHD guidance and neurodevelopmental pathways helpful.
  • Strong governance, confidentiality and audit awareness required.

Responsibilities

Job summary

We're looking for a GP with extended role for ADHD to join our exciting new ADHD service for up to 5 sessions per week. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference from the outset and play an important role in helping us develop and deliver the service.

Main duties of the job

As the ADHD Clinical Lead, you will provide clinical leadership for the specialist ADHD service, including clinical leadership for the ADHD pathway. You will ensure safe, evidence-based assessment and treatment, high-quality multidisciplinary practice and continuous service improvement.

You will support a culture of learning and development across the Primary Care Sheffield ADHD service, providing training and development to the ADHD clinical team. Working alongside the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide and support medical leadership across the operational and clinical roles within the PCS ADHD service.

You will also provide GP care within the PCS ADHD service, including review and sign-off for shared care agreements. Your role will include undertaking comprehensive ADHD assessments in line with NICE guidelines, formulating and documenting diagnoses, differential diagnoses and management plans, completing high-quality assessment reports within agreed turnaround times, and initiating and reviewing ADHD treatment plans, including shared care recommendations.

Job responsibilities

The GP with Extended Role for ADHD will provide clinical expertise across the PCS ADHD service. The postholder will work alongside managerial and clinical leads to help ensure that high standards of governance, quality and patient safety are maintained across the service.

Clinical Practice and Leadership
  • Undertake comprehensive ADHD assessments in line with NICE guidelines.
  • Formulate and document diagnoses, differential diagnoses, and management plans.
  • Complete high-quality assessment reports within agreed turnaround times.
  • Initiate and review ADHD treatment plans, including shared care recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records using agreed clinical systems and contribute to outcome monitoring.
  • Support service quality, consistency, and patient experience across the ADHD pathway.
  • Promote a culture of service user empowerment.
  • Provide medical management, including prescribing and monitoring ADHD medications in line with national guidance
  • Work collaboratively with the MDT, including psychiatrists, nurses and admin teams.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, peer review and service development.
  • Work with the ADHD Consultant Psychiatrist and ADHD Team Manager to ensure the service meets performance targets, waiting time standards, and regulatory requirements.
General
  • Contribute to business planning, workforce development, and service redesign.
  • Support the weekly multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • Participate where required in recruitment, induction, and appraisal of clinical staff.
  • Represent the service as part of the operational team where required at trust-wide or organisational leadership forums.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, information governance and clinical governance standards.
