MERITUS are seeking an Engineering Quality Inspector to join our Bolton operation, supporting Goods In processes with an apprenticeship background. You will inspect mechanical, machined and PCB components against drawings and PO requirements.

The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and manufacturing specifications, with responsibility for non-conformances and accurate inspection records. 37 hours per week; extension possible.

Qualifications

MERITUS are looking for a Quality Inspector to support Goods In processes from an apprenticeship qualified background e.g. must have NVQ Level 3 and a HNC or HND.

QUALITY INSPECTOR - INSIDE IR35 - £29.02 PER HOUR (RISING TO £30.38 PER HOUR AFTER 12 WEEKS) - BOLTON - UNDERGO SC CLEARED - 12 MONTHS - LIKELY EXTENSION - MUST HAVE NVQ LEVEL 3 & HNC OR HND - GOODS IN EXPERIENCE - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Quality Inspector to join our client's manufacturing and engineering operation.

This is a hands-on inspection role responsible for ensuring that mechanical, machined and electronic/PCB components meet specified quality standards, engineering drawings, purchase order requirements and contractual conditions.

The successful candidate will have a strong engineering inspection background and be confident interpreting engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and manufacturing specifications. You will be responsible for inspecting incoming and manufactured components, identifying non-conformances and ensuring that only conforming product progresses through the manufacturing process.

This is not a purely goods-in or warehouse-based role. We are looking for someone with genuine technical inspection and quality experience within an engineering/manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed inspection and verification of incoming components, assemblies and manufactured parts against purchase orders, drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Inspect and verify products to ensure they meet defined quality, dimensional and workmanship standards.
  • Interpret and work confidently from engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances and technical documentation.
  • Perform first-off inspections and support the verification and approval of production components.
  • Carry out dimensional and visual inspection of machined and manufactured components.
  • Examine component finishes to identify defects including poor finishing, painting defects, surface deterioration, damage and other workmanship issues.
  • Undertake PCB/electronic inspection where required.
  • Identify, document and control defective or non-conforming product.
  • Segregate non-conforming items from approved product to prevent unintended use or further processing.
  • Raise and maintain non-conformance/defect reports, ensuring issues are accurately recorded and appropriately controlled.
  • Complete all relevant inspection, quality control and product verification documentation.
  • Check and verify paperwork and certification associated with delivered components and products.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support the product verification and approval process through regular audits and checks.
  • Ensure inspection activities are completed within the required timescales to support manufacturing and delivery schedules.
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, procurement and suppliers to resolve quality issues and identify recurring defects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant quality procedures, manufacturing processes and company standards.
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving workmanship standards and overall product quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment in accordance with company health and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of inspection and quality processes.
Essential Experience & Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Quality Inspector, Engineering Inspector, Quality Control Inspector or similar within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience of inspection of mechanical/machined components.
  • Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances.
  • Experience identifying and recording product defects and non-conformances.
  • Experience completing inspection and quality documentation.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, workmanship standards and product quality requirements.
  • Ability to work accurately and methodically, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work to defined inspection procedures and within required timescales.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.
  • A proactive approach to identifying quality issues and preventing defective product from progressing through the manufacturing process.
  • Strong customer and quality focus.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing processes, priorities and working practices.
