Job summary

Matalan is seeking a Technical Manager to lead the quality team across the full product lifecycle. You will collaborate with Buying, Design and stakeholders to advance global quality, compliance and fit strategies, ensuring end-to-end quality processes.

The role drives improvements and oversees technical files, testing standards and supplier engagement. You will manage material libraries, supervise fit decisions, and lead store visits, with international travel as required.

Qualifications

• Senior leader with product/garment tech or quality management background.
• Strong knowledge of compliance, product safety and quality standards.
• Pattern-cutting and garment construction knowledge essential.
• Experience with factory production processes and manufacturing methods.
• Proven ability to manage supplier relationships across a global base.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver the quality strategy for the relevant category or area.
• Lead critical path management within the quality team to meet SLAs.
• Partner with Buying, Design and stakeholders to embed quality in decisions.
• Engage regularly with the supply base to communicate quality messages.
• Champion a 'right first time' culture and drive continuous improvement.
• Oversee fit accuracy, sampling hits and seal decisions when needed.
• Develop and maintain technical files to support product development.
• Create and update testing standards, manuals and training materials.
• Monitor returns and inspection data to identify risks and drive improvements.
• Provide timely reporting to stakeholders to inform decisions.
• Pilot new tech (PLM, 3D tools) to boost efficiency in quality.
• Maintain block or fabric libraries and conduct store visits.
