Job summary

Global Payments Inc. in Cambridge seeks a Software Engineer - Java to join our high‑volume payments platform. You will design and build secure, scalable Java services that process thousands of transactions per second in a 24/7 environment.

You’ll work with Java, SQL and PL/SQL across the SDLC, partner with UK/US engineers, and contribute to code reviews, deployment support and continuous improvement. Experience with Oracle, Spring Boot and modern tooling is valued.

Qualifications

• Proficient in building secure, testable Java-distributed applications on Linux
• Strong relational database concepts (Oracle) and design pattern knowledge
• Collaborative team player with ability to drive improvements under pressure
• Experience with large codebases and version control systems
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and SDLC practices

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Java-based solutions for an e-commerce payments gateway.
• Collaborate with QA engineers, participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Work with UK and US engineers, supporting release activities and deployment.
• Contribute to retrospectives and debt reduction while improving team practices
• Support release activities outside normal hours as needed
• Engage across the full SDLC with business stakeholders for smooth operation.
