Global Mobility Tax Manager
Top 10 Firm, London Office
Up to £72,000!!!

I am seeking a Global Mobility Tax Manager to join an expanding and dynamic department. This position will provide support to the Global Mobility Tax Lead in the development and growth of their tax function. It is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where they can help shape a team, gain hands-on business development experience, and enhance their technical expertise—offering more diverse responsibilities than a traditional managerial role in a larger team.

In this role, you will play a key part in driving the delivery of Global Mobility tax advisory services, including drafting reports and assisting the tax lead in discussions with both prospective and current clients. You will also contribute to the business development efforts of the service line. Additionally, you will oversee junior staff who support the day-to-day delivery of Global Mobility and employment tax services for a wide range of individual clients.

This is a vital position within the team, involving direct client interaction where you'll need to handle client relationships and collaborate effectively with other professional advisors. Strong technical expertise is essential, as is the ability to communicate complex tax concepts to non-experts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to partners and directors/tax lead in the effective running of the team and in winning new work.
  • Prepare technical advisory work.
  • Handle one-off advisory and compliance assignments.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients.
  • Dealing with a wide range of tax issues that result from globally mobile employees, as well as social security implications.
  • Oversee the UK tax return filing process for a diverse portfolio of expatriate clients.
  • Provide feedback and contribute to staff appraisals, with direct responsibility for appraising team members.
  • Monitor progress and encourage the personal development of all team members.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written work.
  • Actively participate in initiatives to improve team efficiency.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:

The candidate should have experience in advising on a wide range of global mobility issues which should ideally include the following areas:

  • ATT/CTA qualified, or other professional qualification with demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Advanced understanding of core expatriate tax and social security issues.
  • Confident interaction with HMRC regarding complex issues on behalf of clients.
  • Ability to deliver advice confidently in transactional, litigious, or confrontational circumstances.
  • Experience in self-assessment and preparation of tax computations.
  • Advising on specialist payrolls and agreements with HMRC.
  • Drafting report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
  • Previous supervisory and management experience including reviewing the work of others.
  • Planning for globally mobile employees.
  • Dealing with enquiries into all aspects of direct taxation, including settlement and penalty negotiation.
  • International share scheme experience is desirable.

Client experience:

  • Experience working with SMEs (multinational experience is desirable).
  • Experience working with non-UK domiciled and non-resident clients.
  • Experience working with client HR, payroll, and tax teams.

Enterprise:

  • Understanding clients' attitudes to risk and ensuring advice is communicated clearly, correctly, and consistently.
  • Recognizing that tax advice is more than just technical analysis.

Business Building:

  • Supporting the tax lead in discussions with prospective and existing clients, pitches, proposals, and presentations on tax issues.
  • Keen to help develop this service line.
  • Referring non-tax work to other parts of the business.
  • Proactively suggesting approaches to clients and contacts.
  • Showing commercial judgment to improve efficiency and profitability.

Delivery:

  • Managing WIP and billing responsibilities.
  • Meeting all deadlines.
  • Setting roles, expectations, and responsibilities; motivating team members.
