Job summary

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is seeking a Director of Membership and Governance to lead strategic membership initiatives, ensure robust governance, and support elections and reporting. You will act as Data Protection Officer, coordinate with College leadership, and drive engagement for a global membership base.

The role requires senior leadership experience within regulated environments, strong governance knowledge, and excellent stakeholder management to influence boards

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in a membership organisation, charity, public sector or similarly regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of corporate governance principles and best practice, including EDI.
• Sound understanding of UK GDPR and information governance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Membership income and expenditure (~£4M) and manage the Membership and Governance Team (~12 staff).
• Lead development and delivery of UK and international membership strategies to engage 15,000+ members across 100 countries.
• Ensure governance processes are robust; work with College Council and faculty boards; support elections and decisions.
• Act as Data Protection Officer with responsibility for GDPR compliance and complaints handling.
• Prepare and present high-quality papers and reports for boards and committees.
