Job summary

AWE is seeking a Customs and Shipping Specialist to manage imports and exports for international shipping. The role is fully onsite at Aldermaston, Reading, with a starting salary of £40,000 plus allowances and a nine-day working fortnight.

You will apply customs policies, liaise with internal and overseas teams, and coordinate with suppliers by road, air, and courier. The successful candidate should have at least 2 years in shipping with compliance experience and be eligible for UK government

Qualifications

• 2 years’ experience in a shipping role involving customs and trade compliancy.
• Able to attain and maintain Government Developed Vetting security status.
• Exposure to defence shipping/logistics is an advantage.
• Experience dealing with imports/exports from the EU post-BREXIT, especially by road.
• Making effective decisions regarding shipping method and supplier based on quotes and customer needs.
• Initiative and flexibility, ability to meet tight deadlines, and manage own workload.

Responsibilities

• Deliver AWE’s international shipping requirements (exports and imports).
• Apply internal Customs and Trade Control policy to meet external regulatory obligations.
• Maintain high standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a team player.
• Support Shipping Operations Manager to deliver improvement and change programmes.
• Communicate with internal customers and overseas offices.
• Coordinate with external suppliers to arrange shipping by road, air and courier.
• Attend and contribute to operational meetings.
• Keep records, archiving and financial administration up to date and provide data reporting.
• Keep internal training up to date.
• The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position.
