Job summary

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London seeks an NHS Ophthalmology Specialty Trainee (ST6-8) for a 12‑month fixed-term post. The role includes glaucoma subspecialty training, cataract surgery in difficult cases, and two dedicated weekly glaucoma theatre sessions with consultant supervision.

The appointee must have MRCOphth or equivalent, full GMC registration, and suitable higher qualifications.

Qualifications

• MRCOphth or equivalent required.
• Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice.
• Higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD) preferred.
• Management course and/or qualification desired.
• Teaching skills course/qualification advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular clinical duties at Queen Mary’s Hospital, managing out-patients and in-patients and ward referrals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical governance programmes.
• Contribute to audit programmes and Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
• Support outpatient clinic commitments across the Care Group as agreed.
• Engage in the Care Group’s research activities within the Trust R&D framework.
• Carry out duties within the contracted service level and maintain patient safety and quality standards.
• Collaborate with colleagues to maintain service productivity and participate in appraisals as needed.
• Comply with infection prevention and control policies and safety protocols.
