About the job

We are seeking a GIS Technician to join our GIS and Research team within the Business Services Directorate on an 8-month fixed-term contract. This role involves creating and maintaining GIS datasets related to the operational estate, surplus land, and the Strategic Road Network.

The responsibilities include preparing data for the Land Registry accelerated registration programme, producing spatial datasets, and supporting land ownership and maintenance records as per the licensing agreement with the Government.

Key responsibilities

1. Investigate, manipulate, and present complex geospatial data and documents accurately.
2. Interpret legal documents, imagery, and other sources to capture, attribute, and compile digital data to specifications.
3. Create digital records of operational interests within GIS and analyze relevant information for decision making.
4. Obtain maps, digital data, and maintenance information from Local Authorities.
5. Generate geospatial datasets for internal and external stakeholders, preparing outputs and plans.

This position is an 8-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

About you

1. Degree or relevant experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
2. Knowledge of coordinate systems, digital representation, and basic programming languages (HTML, Python).
3. Experience with mapping systems such as ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS.
4. Proficiency with MS Office software for creating complex documents and spreadsheets.
5. Ability to work efficiently in an office environment, providing excellent customer service and managing supply chains.
