Job summary

SLB Cambridge Research in the UK seeks a creative Research Scientist to design and lead geothermal multi‑phase fluid dynamic experiments. The role focuses on validating mathematical models of fluid flow in enhanced geothermal systems and expanding to optimize system design.

The successful candidate will build and commission experiments at temperature and pressure, collaborate with modelers and domain experts, and present findings internally and at conferences.

Qualifications

• PhD in Fluid mechanics or related field.
• Experience in design of experimental rigs; building and commissioning experiments is essential.
• Experience in particle tracking techniques is desirable.
• Experience in heat transfer modelling or experiments is desirable.
• Experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and data interpretation including data science approaches is desirable.
• Experience in advanced instrumentation for multiphase flow measurements (laser-optical PLIF/PIV, electrical, ultrasonic, and nuclear techniques) is desirable.
• CFD modelling of multiphase flows (OpenFOAM, COMSOL, Ansys) is desirable.
• Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable.
• Understanding of Geothermal Systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute multiphase fluid flow experiments (gas, liquid, solid) for geothermal research at SCR.
• Collaborate with modellers and geothermal experts to build and validate models.
• Engage with SLB technical community across teams.
• Develop novel solutions and articulate them to the technology team and management.
• Publish scientific papers and contribute to patent activity and conferences.
