This role, based in Harrogate (or potentially Reading or Manchester), is for Coffey Geotechnics, a Tetra Tech Company. Coffey Geotechnics is a specialist consultancy providing geotechnical and engineering geological design services from offices in Harrogate, Manchester, and Reading (UK).

About the role:

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Coffey Geotechnics team in Reading. The role involves both office-based design and site supervision work for a wide range of geotechnical projects, collaborating with experienced colleagues across different offices. Responsibilities include detailed design of geotechnical structures, ground investigation, earthworks, slope stability, settlement, and ground movement assessments.

The work encompasses permanent and temporary works for infrastructure projects nationally and internationally, in sectors such as Highway, Rail, Property, Water, Defence, and Energy.

Role responsibilities:

1. Undertake technical and non-technical tasks including fieldwork, data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and report writing.
2. Contribute to projects involving design of foundations, slopes, retaining walls, assessment of existing structures, and remedial measures.
3. Engage in personal and professional development.
4. Mentor junior team members, providing guidance and technical support.
5. Plan, coordinate, and manage small work programs.
6. Contribute to project success and develop positive client relationships.
7. Assist in proposal development and submissions.
8. Promote Coffey's reputation and market presence.
9. Adhere to policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
10. Contribute to technically complex projects and be willing to travel as needed, including overseas assignments.

Essential skills:

• Enthusiasm for developing geotechnical consultancy skills.
• Basic knowledge of geotechnical engineering and project management principles.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets and industry-standard software (e.g., FREW, SLIDE, Settle 3D).
• Familiarity with Eurocode 7, UK design codes, ground investigation, and construction contracts.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable skills:

• Proficiency in PLAXIS or similar software.
• Understanding of innovative solutions in geotechnical design.

Qualifications:

• BSc in Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Postgraduate qualification (MSc, MEng, PhD) is advantageous.
• Chartered status or working towards it.

Additional requirements:

• Valid driving license.
• Support for chartership, CPD, mentoring, and project management training.
• Potential for security clearance depending on projects.
