Job summary

WSP in Cardiff is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. You will deliver geotechnical assessments and design outputs, develop ground models and interpret data to inform engineering solutions.

You will manage tasks, supervise ground investigations, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. A proactive, Chartered-aspiring professional is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of ground risk and site investigation planning.
• Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics and geotechnical design.
• Experience delivering geotechnical assessments and reports in consultancy or client environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for high-quality deliverables.
• Experience supervising site investigations and coordinating fieldwork safely.
• Proactive problem solving and collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
• Progress towards Chartered status or commitment to accreditation

We are looking for Geotechnical Engineers to join our existing team in Cardiff.

A little more about your role...

• Delivering technically sound geotechnical and geological assessments, reports and design outputs for a range of projects.
• Developing ground models, geotechnical interpretation and design parameters to inform engineering solutions.
• Undertaking geotechnical analysis and design for slopes, retaining structures, foundations and earthworks, as well as assessments of geological hazards.
• Taking responsibility for managing your own project tasks and work packages, ensuring quality, budget and programme requirements are met.
• Building strong relationships with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams, acting as a trusted technical contributor.
• Planning and supervising ground investigations, managing fieldwork activities and interpreting site data.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and engineering geologists, sharing knowledge and contributing to the development of the wider team.
• Driving innovation in project delivery through the application of sustainable design practices and the effective use of digital and 3D data solutions.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...

• A strong understanding of ground risk, site investigation planning and geotechnical interpretation.
• Good knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, engineering geology and geotechnical design principles.
• Experience delivering geotechnical assessments, reports and design calculations within consultancy, contractor or client environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality technical deliverables and engage confidently with clients.
• Experience supervising ground investigations and managing site-based activities safely and effectively.
• A proactive approach to problem solving, project delivery and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
• Progress towards Chartered status (or a clear commitment to achieving professional accreditation in the near future).
