Job summary

Millward Consulting Engineers in Nottingham seeks an experienced Geotechnical Director to lead and expand our geotechnical team, managing a portfolio of infrastructure and development projects across sectors.

You will provide high-level technical oversight, develop strategic plans for growth, mentor senior engineers, and ensure adherence to standards and safety while engaging clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng, P.E., P.Eng. or equivalent) desirable.
• 10–15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, including senior or leadership roles.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure and/or complex geotechnical projects.
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, ground investigation techniques, numerical modelling and relevant design standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across geotechnical engineering services, including site investigation, ground modelling, foundation design, slope stability, retaining structures and geohazard assessments.
• Lead, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Oversee geotechnical input across major infrastructure, commercial, industrial and environmental projects.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to grow Millward’s geotechnical service offering.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, quality systems and health and safety requirements.
• Review and approve technical reports, design deliverables and risk assessments.
• Manage project budgets, programmes and resources to support successful project delivery.
• Support business development through client engagement, proposal writing and participation in relevant industry events.
