Job summary

Galliford Try Group is offering a two-year Graduate Geotechnical Design Engineer programme in the UK. You’ll work with a Geotechnical Principal Design Engineer across pre-construction and construction phases, supporting design solutions for infrastructure projects, and engaging with consultants and suppliers.

You will develop technical skills, pursue professional qualifications if desired, and may travel to various project sites with some away-from-home stays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Geotechnical Design / Geology prior to September 2027.
• Full UK driving licence (or plan to obtain by 6 September 2027).
• Eligibility to live and work in the UK without restriction.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings and site visits to discuss project geotechnical requirements and solutions for tenders and projects.
• Assist in preparation of geotechnical design briefs and performing analysis, design calculations for foundations, slopes, retaining walls, earth works and other ground engineering aspects.
• Assist in scoping and preparing Ground Investigations (GI), including determining techniques, drafting specifications, and supervising on-site work to ensure safety, data accuracy, and quality.
• Prepare Ground Investigation Reports (GIR), Geotechnical design Reports (GDR), perform foundation assessments based on GI data, providing design recommendations and summarizing findings for site conditions.
• Check design calculations completed by other team members or external consultants.
• Assist in preparing technical drawings, models, and schedules based on geotechnical designs and analyses.
• Support the governance process, ensuring designs and checks are completed within deadlines and fee estimates.
• Contribute to ensuring compliance with the company’s Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management standards.
• Take a proactive approach to your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to enhance your technical knowledge and stay updated with industry developments.
