Job summary

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking a Geomatics Officer to join our Geomatics department on a full-time, permanent basis. The post holder will work largely in the office, ensuring QA of digital field survey data and providing survey support to other departments and clients.

You will contribute to fieldwork planning, instrument allocation, and the digitisation of site records using CAD, GIS and ESRI ArcGIS Pro, with opportunities to develop GIS and CAD skills across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree or post-graduate qualification in Archaeology (or relevant subject).
• Sufficient experience as a field archaeologist on evaluations, watching briefs and excavations.
• Considerable understanding of the principles of archaeological survey.
• Extensive knowledge of ESRI software; proficiency in ArcGIS Pro.
• Methodological approach to working and meeting deadlines.
• Experience of archaeological field survey using GNSS and Total Stations (Leica preferred).
• Ability to describe observations and interpretations from field work clearly.
• Excellent IT skills; especially Word, Excel, and Access.
• Commitment to professional standards of archaeology.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willingness to away work and stay away as required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the successful and safe conduct of digital field survey and data capture.
• Maintain configuration, maintenance and security of field survey equipment.
• Assure quality of field survey data from digitising to final product.
• Carry out field survey and on-site data collection tasks as needed.
• Digitise site records and manipulate archaeological data using CAD, GIS or other geospatial software.
• Use ESRI ArcGIS Pro for geoprocessing, querying and publishing GIS data.
