Job Title: Data Management Specialist - Offshore Wind Projects

Functional Area:

About the Role:

Sitting within the Geophysics and Metocean team, and working closely with the Geotechnical Engineering and site survey package management team, your role will be to manage, QC, and organise offshore and onshore geological, geophysical, geotechnical, metocean, and environmental data for RWE’s offshore wind farm projects. This data covers all project stages, from site prospecting to decommissioning or repowering surveys.

Responsibilities:
  1. Prioritise and plan datasets for the data management system, including data transfer from various storage types.
  2. Manage, QC, and organise geoscientific data, ensuring compliance with format and filetype standards.
  3. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for data transfer, storage, and usage.
  4. Prepare geoscientific data for regulatory submissions.
  5. Support technical tenders and survey scope development, incorporating lessons learned from QC processes.
  6. Assist in technical tender assessments to ensure data delivery capabilities.
  7. Review survey data during and after data collection to ensure quality and accuracy.
  8. Collaborate with IT and other departments to maintain data management systems.
Requirements:
  • Background in geoscientific data management and experience reviewing technical reports and large datasets, including QC and metadata standards.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of governance and Q-FAIR data management principles.
  • Ability to QC diverse geophysical datasets, such as sidescan sonar, magnetometer, and others.
  • Proficiency with software like ArcGIS, SonarWiz, Oasis Montaj, IHS Kingdom, Petrel, and familiarity with cloud storage solutions.
  • Understanding of geophysical and hydrographic survey techniques and data formats.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and European requirements for offshore wind surveys.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • MSc or equivalent in Geophysics or related geoscience discipline.
Preferred (not essential):
  • Experience interpreting and integrating geophysical and geotechnical datasets.
  • Knowledge of machine learning applications in geoscience data.
  • Familiarity with OSDU platform.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours for live survey support.
