Job Description

We are looking for a Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our team in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to join an established and growing regional team, part of X’s 90-strong geo-environmental resource.

The Nottingham team provides ground investigation and geo-environmental consultancy services for a broad range of private and public sector clients in development, health, education, defence, and infrastructure sectors.

This role involves designing, managing, supervising, and reporting on ground investigations. Our team of experienced Consultants will offer mentoring and the opportunity to progress to professional chartership following a formal training scheme. We tailor your training and development to help you reach your potential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Producing geo-environmental desk studies.
2. Designing, managing, and supervising ground investigations, including accurate site data collection.
3. Monitoring ground gas and groundwater.
4. Producing health and safety plans for investigations.
5. Preparing factual reports.
6. Producing geo-environmental interpretative reports.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• First degree in geology or related subject.
• Experience in ground investigation, including design, setup, logging, supervision, laboratory scheduling, groundwater and ground gas monitoring, and factual reporting.
• Experience in writing ground investigation interpretative reports (ground contamination and/or geotechnical assessments) is preferred.
• Willingness to travel for investigations, with at least 30% of the role site-based, possibly involving overnight stays.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fully IT literate, capable of producing clear, concise, and technically robust reports.
• Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental management related to ground investigations.
• Full, preferably clean, driving license.
• Strong social, interpersonal, and communication skills; team player.

Desirable Qualifications

• Masters degree in a relevant discipline.
• Experience in soil and rock logging, gas and groundwater sampling, contaminated land, or engineering geological assessments.
• Water Hygiene Card, SMSTS, CAT scan course, First Aid, and CSCS qualifications are advantageous.
