Job summary

EMBL-EBI's DECIPHER team seeks a Bioinformatics Developer to maintain and extend the DECIPHER platform, enabling clinical interpretation of genetic variation and secure data sharing for rare diseases. You will work with two software developers and a project lead to make data available for clinical use.

Responsibilities include integrating resources, deploying tools, designing data structures, and collaborating with data producers and clinicians.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological, clinical or computational sciences.
• Higher degree in bioinformatics, software engineering or computational sciences.
• Experience with bioinformatics standards, tools and resources, preferably variant annotation.
• Experience creating methods to manage and process genomics data.
• Experience designing and using large-scale relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, assess and integrate molecular biology data from public resources.
• Deploy bioinformatics tools in the DECIPHER environment and analyze genomic data.
• Design and implement data structures and interfaces for human genome information.
• Support DECIPHER users by addressing bug reports and feature requests.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into feature specifications.
• Perform ad hoc analyses to investigate data issues and aid decisions.
• Collaborate with EMBL-EBI groups and external partners to integrate resources.
• Bring bioinformatics expertise to the DECIPHER team and represent the project in meetings.
