Job description

We are looking for an experienced laboratory scientist to support the technical aspects of our diagnostic sequencing services on a maternity cover contract. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a diagnostic molecular laboratory. Skills in next-generation sequencing, array setup, and quality management are advantageous. Candidates should be meticulous, good communicators, and well-organized.

The main purpose of this role is to support the Multi-omic Medicine Service by contributing to laboratory work within the Molecular Neuropathology team. The responsibilities include performing molecular tests for diagnosing and managing neurological tumours, ensuring high standards in testing and reporting within target times, and possessing broad knowledge of clinical molecular genetics.

The Post Holder Is Expected To:
  1. Ensure the timely delivery and reporting of genetic analyses.
  2. Lead and line manage the technical team.
  3. Maintain and operate complex analytical equipment accurately, verifying results before reporting.
  4. Apply a thorough understanding of technical, scientific, and clinical principles in genetics service delivery, including troubleshooting assays and techniques.
  5. Identify skills gaps and plan training for technical and administrative staff.
  6. Oversee training and development, including creating training materials and assessing competency.
  7. Provide feedback to peers and senior colleagues regularly.
